Ongoing Research Projects

Our lab is dedicated to advancing human performance and health through a wide range of ongoing research projects. Below you can explore our current studies, and if you are interested in participating, please contact Matt Chatlaong or Kealey Wohlgemuth.

Projects

Led by Matt Chatlaong

Project Summary: This study is based on evaluating methods for measuring oxygen uptake across metabolic domains during cycling exercise. It also involves the non-invasive assessment of muscle oxidative capacity via near-infrared spectroscopy.

Led by Leah Haddle (student investigator), Matt Chatlaong, and Kealey Wohlgemuth

Project Summary: This study is based on assessing whether wrist-worn consumer wearable heart rate measures are better when worn at the wrist or bicep. Effects of tissue properties beneath the device are also being explored.

Led by Emma Kalinowski (student investigator), Kealey Wohlgemuth, and Matt Chatlaong

Project Summary: This study examines the influence of various ultrasound devices and ultrasound technician skill levels on the reliability and accuracy of ultrasound images acquired.

Led by Kealey Wohlgemuth

Project Summary: This study investigates body composition, neuromuscular function, and aerobic capacity in career firefighters.

Led by Kealey Wohlgemuth

Project Summary: This project compares dietary habits and sleep behaviors in firefighters when on-shift compared to off-shift.

Led by Dr. Gabe Sanders

Project Summary: Studies involve partnerships athletic teams to use wearable tech, CMJ testing, and thermal imaging to monitor athlete readiness and provide data-driven insights that optimize performance, recovery, and injury prevention.

Led by Matt Chatlaong and Kealey Wohlgemuth

Project Summary: This study investigates the interaction between muscle contraction force and blood flow, seeking to determine its role in dictating metabolic thresholds and associated neuromuscular responses.
