Study Abroad CECH

This faculty-led May Break 2027 program is a 10-day study abroad experience in New Zealand, co-developed with Whenua Iti / ExpedNZ. The program is designed for students across majors who are interested in intercultural learning, Indigenous pedagogies, community engagement, and equity-driven leadership. I selected Aotearoa New Zealand because it offers students the opportunity to learn in a Māori-led context through workshops and place-based experiences centered on cultural stewardship, language revitalization, community wellbeing, and ethical engagement. The program also creates space for students to examine how land, ancestry, identity, and resilience shape communities, while encouraging reflection on their own responsibilities as global learners and leaders.

This 10-day adventure in Scotland is the perfect combination of learning, exploring, and leisure. Students will have the opportunity to witness criminal court proceedings, learn from law enforcement and criminal justice social workers, visit an operating prison and a historical jail museum, and engage with criminology and criminal justice scholars and faculty and students from multiple universities. Students will be immersed in the culture and history of Scotland, as they visit castles, monuments, museums, and ruins, and take in the beauty and charm of Scotland cities.

Embark on an enriching 11-day study abroad journey to Helsinki, Finland, and Tallinn, Estonia, designed for both undergraduate and graduate students eager to explore the educational landscapes of these vibrant countries. This immersive experience offers the opportunity to delve into the educational systems of Finland and Estonia, renowned worldwide for their innovative approaches and high educational standards. Participants will engage in interactive sessions with local educators and students, gaining firsthand insights into teaching methodologies, curriculum design, and the integration of technology in classrooms. The trip highlights the distinctive features of these systems compared to the US, such as Finland's emphasis on student well-being and holistic development, and Estonia's rapid digitalization and emphasis on STEM education. Beyond the academic focus, students will have the chance to explore the cultural and historical richness of Helsinki and Tallinn, fostering a deeper understanding of the societal factors that influence education in these regions.

The University of Cincinnati Sport Administration program is excited to offer a study abroad opportunities in May 2027 to GREECE! This trip is open to all University of Cincinnati students, but the focus will be on sport business, history, and culture in Greece. As part of this trip, we'll visit Athens and Olympia, exploring ancient Olympic sites, as well as facilities used during the 2004 Summer Olympic Games. Travel to the island of Santorini is also included! We'll have the opportunity to hear from current sport industry executives, attend local sporting events, and network with university students overseas. In addition to taking in the sports scene, students will be exposed to Greek culture, food, art, nature, and architecture. 

Visit Japan over May Break 2027 with the Exercise Science program. Students will experience Japanese culture firsthand during their visit to Tokyo and Okinawa. This trip is specifically designed for exercise science undergraduate students interested in learning about the exercise, performance, and health/wellness lifestyle in Japan. Students will meet industry professionals, tour sport and fitness venues, visit historical sites, and develop an appreciation for Japanese culture.

What is a good life? This is what we will ponder as we go abroad to study happiness, care, and well-being on a study tour of Denmark and Sweden. This trip is designed to be “hygge” (cozy and nice), and just the right balance of fun, study, and reflection. There will be plenty of time for recreation and relaxation as we consider the makeup of a good life from a social science lens. Together, we’ll consider the topics of education, society, connection, belonging, art, beauty, design, and nature as we travel to Denmark and Sweden, two countries that have high happiness ratings and academic performance.
