The School of Education at the University of Cincinnati is home to a group of centers that advance research, teaching, and community impact across multiple areas of learning. Together, the IDD Education Center, the Center for English as a Second Language, the Arlitt Center for Education, and the Center for Studies in Jewish Education and Culture reflect the School’s commitment to innovative and culturally responsive education.
Centers
The Arlitt Center
The Arlitt Child Development Center is one of the oldest demonstration preschools in the United States. Founded in 1925 as the University of Cincinnati Nursery School, the child development center is sustained in part by an endowment from UC professor and founder of the center, Dr. Ada Hart Arlitt.
IDD Education Center
The University of Cincinnati’s IDD Education Center provides life-changing programs for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to further their education, independence, and life skills. Program participants reach their potential and find their purpose in a community that accepts and supports them to be the best they can be.
Center for English as a Second Language
The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) is the academic unit which provides ESL courses to international graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Cincinnati. As an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, we serve the ESL community by providing high-quality English language courses in an authentic learning environment where students are immersed in academic and social cultures.
Center for Studies in Jewish Education
The Center for Studies in Jewish Education and Culture (CSJEC) research agenda seeks to advance our theoretical understandings of culture, relationship, and teacher identity and develop new models for teachers' professional development.
