Karen Gonzalez - International Program Coordinator

Hello and welcome! I'm Karen Gonzalez, International Student Program Coordinator for the University of Cincinnati's College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH). My role is to help make your transition to our college and community as welcoming and seamless as possible. Whether you have questions about academic programs, housing, campus resources, or life in Cincinnati, I am here to connect you with the right people and support you along the way. Coming from a multicultural background myself, I have a deep appreciation for the diverse perspectives, traditions, and experiences our international students bring to campus. I especially admire the resilience, courage, determination, humility, and love of learning that define so many of their journeys. One quote that inspires me is: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This belief guides my work and my commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, valued, and supported.

Professionally, I am a licensed social worker with experience in immigrant and refugee advocacy, higher education access, youth mentoring, and hospice and palliative care. I also hold a Master of Education in Literacy and Second Language Studies with a focus on TESOL and teach English as a Second Language to adult learners. Beyond my professional roles, I enjoy traveling, exploring local ethnic markets, creating art and handmade gifts, attending multicultural events, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on a great soccer match. I am honored to work with students from around the world and look forward to welcoming you to the CECH community.
