UC receives $3.75M in federal funding for K-12 mental health initiative

December 18, 2024

A three-year, $3.75 million grant from the Department of Education aims to address critical gaps in the mental health and educational landscape by providing tuition stipends for UC graduate students majoring in school and mental health counseling, school psychology and social work.

Bearcat Performance Lab expands exercise science research, engages the community

As a tool of the Exercise Science program offered by the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH), the Bearcat Performance Lab provides a dedicated space fully stocked with equipment to research and investigate physiological and cardiovascular responses to exercise for individuals and athletes of all ages and populations.

One year of leadership at UC

July 1, 2025, marked the one-year anniversary for Lisa Huffman in the role of Dean of University of Cincinnati’s College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology – CECH or, as she refers to it, CECH-IT (“catch it”). It’s been a year of undeniable changes and challenges, but Huffman is focused on celebrating what she calls "the best job in the world."

UC research links childhood trauma, tobacco exposure

August 7, 2025

A new study led by UC’s Ashley Merianos finds that adverse childhood experiences increase children's risk of secondhand and thirdhand smoke exposure — even when caregivers smoke outside. Merianos is a prolific tobacco-use researcher with an emphasis on the effects of using tobacco around children.
