Mathematics Specialist Endoresement, PK-Grade 6

The PreK-6 Mathematics Endorsement from the Ohio Department of Education prepares teachers to become school leaders in mathematics education, to coach other teachers, to evaluate school curriculum and to provide inservice training for school personnel. Coursework for this endorsement is based upon a research-to-practice model from an NCATE-approved teacher education program.

Enrolled teachers will have numerous opportunities to interact with course instructors and colleagues in the field. Credits earns can be used to satisfy employment/continuing education requirements and they may also be applied towards an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction.

Tuition is at the Professional Development rate of 50% of full graduate in-state tuition.

Application Procedures

Applicants who have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, and at least three years of experience teaching mathematics (which includes as an early childhood generalist) should submit a copy of their current early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescent/young adult license.

Program Requirements

Program Details

Candidates who have not completed adequate course work in mathematics will be required to complete a series of courses designed to prepare middle school teachers to teach math.

Licensure Information

In order to qualify for the Ohio Endorsement, candidates must successfully complete all courses and performance assessments embedded in the courses. Candidates who successfully complete the program may be recommended for the Ohio PreK-6 Mathematics Specialist Endorsement.

Curriculum

All courses are three quarter graduate credit hours. All coursework is available online, except for CI 671P and 672P, which are completed during a one-week Summer Institute.
