Gifted, Creative and Talented
Professional Development
This online coursework is specifically designed for licensed K-12 teachers pursuing Ohio GCT Endorsement. It may be completed in as few as four consecutive quarters without a visit to Cincinnati. Each course is five weeks in length to provide a flexible and convenient schedule. The hands-on practicum experience may be completed at a convenient site.
Enrolled teachers may begin online courses any quarter at a special professional development tuition rate, 50% of the graduate in-state tuition rate. This program provides a research to practice professional development model and is approved by the Ohio Department of Education. Through the School of Education, all teacher preparation programs are NCATE-approved.
Admission Requirements
Courses may be taken without application, but a formal application must be submitted before completion of the Practicum. Only candidates who meet the following criteria will be admitted to Practicum:
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
- Current and active early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescent/young adult teaching license
- Two satisfactory letters of reference
- Satisfactory Candidate Dispositions Progress Report, completed by a supervisor or principal
- Professional goals statement
Candidates who are pursuing Ohio endorsement must also successfully complete each required course with at least a C grade and all performance assessments embedded in courses and Practicum.
Licensure Information
This program meets the academic content and field experience requirements for the Ohio Gifted, Creative and Talented Endorsement and does not automatically result in the issuance of a license or endorsement. This endorsement is limited to the age and grade levels listed on your current Ohio license.
Outside of Ohio, students are advised to contact the licensing bureau in that state or country to determine applicability of the UC Gifted Endorsement Online sequence of classes.
Curriculum
All five week courses are offered online and are worth three quarter credits. Candidates who successfully complete the program may qualify for recommendation for the Ohio Gifted Endorsement.
