20 Year Anniversary of the Ph.D. Program

Bachelor Degree

Congratulations Timothy Roy, BS (2011)  who has been a Pretrial Officer with Warren County since graduating in June 2011.

Congratulations Laura Baumeister, BS (1983), retired police officer from the City of Lebanon OH Police Dept.

Congratulations Vincent C. Orso, BS (1991), who now works as a police officer in Arlington, Texas. Vincent graduated with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, emphasis in corrections, and a minor in business which allowed him to have jobs opportunities such as working for EDS, Ferguson Enterprises, Saturn, and finally Subaru.

Congratulations Andrew S. Herrlinger, BS (1992), who is currently working as a Police Officer in the City of Mason. Since graduating in 1992, Andrew has been a United States Paratrooper with the 3rd Brigade of the elite 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He then was hired on to the Police Department and has worked there since.

Congratulations Erik Buchanan, BS (1993), who is working as a Branch Chief for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Congratulations Robert Gillespie, BS (1998), Bay Village Police Department.

Congratulations Aarron Nichols, BS (1999), Family Therapist at Community Solutions, Inc in Pennsylvania. Aarron formerly worked as a Truant Officer in Butler County, Ohio.

Congratulations Erika Falger, BS (2010), Probation Officer, 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois, Adult Probation, Waukegan, IL.

Congratulations to Nicole Lutz, BS (2010), who recently accepted a job as a State Probation Officer in Kentucky.  Upon graduation from UC in 2010, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, she worked a year as a Pretrial Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky for Boone County, Kentucky.  Nicole recently accepted the job as a State Probation Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky supervising Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties.  It has been her goal since attending UC’s criminal justice program to work as a Probation Officer with offenders.  She is also in her last year for UC’s Distance Learning Master’s program for Criminal Justice and is enjoying it.

Masters Degree

Congratulations James L. Brown, MS (1981), Police Officer, Cincinnati Police Dept. 1970-1999, Academy Commander at UC Clermont College Police Academy 1998-2006, and Police Officer/School Resource Office with Union Township Police Department 1999-present.

Congratulations to Jeffrey H. Witte, MS (1988), Shift Commander/Sergeant, University of Dayton, Public Safety Police. In May 2011, he received his second master’s degree, a Master of Science in Education and Allied Professions (with a concentration in Educational Leadership) from the University of Dayton. A summary of his action research project, a qualitative analysis of the D.A.R.E. K-4 curriculum, is scheduled to be published in the December 2011 issue of Ohio Police Chief magazine. He has been accepted to begin Ph.D. studies in Global Leadership (with a concentration in Organizational Management) at the Indiana Institute of Technology in January 2012.

Congratulations John W. Hudson, MS (2006), retired law enforcement, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department; currently teaching Criminal Justice part time at the university level.

Congratulations to Rodney L. Scott, MS (2006), Deputy Chief of Police, City of Loves Park, IL .  Since graduating with an MS in 2006, he has been promoted to Detective (2007) and to his current position of Deputy Chief of Police (2009). He also graduated from Northern Illinois University with an M.P.A. (2010) (Masters of Public Administration).  Also, Rodney currently serves as an adjunct instructor for Northwestern University’s Center from Public Safety. Rodney teaches the budgeting section of their ten week School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC).  He gets to interact with other departments’ command staff when doing this and learns a great deal of information that he is able to take back to his department and implement.  During the current year, Rodney has had the opportunity to instruct in Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Columbus, OH, and Phoenix. He says that he has no doubt that obtaining my M.S. from the University of Cincinnati has allowed him to do these things.  He also said that he constantly is asked about the program and always suggests it to his peers.

Congratulations Kenneth Anderson, MS (2012), who is working as an investigator at the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and is a graduate student at Florida Atlantic University studying Forensic Accounting.

Doctoral Degree

Congratulations to Rich Johnson, Ph.D. (2007), who received notice of tenure in the Dept. of Criminal Justice and Social Work at the University of Toledo in April, 2012, and was promoted to the rank of associate professor.  In May, Rich also received two college-level awards for outstanding teaching at the University of Toledo, one for the undergraduate level and one for the graduate level.

Congratulations to Jill A. Gordan,Ph.D. (1996), and Brad Smith, Ph.D. (1999), who were both elected as a Trustee-at-Large member on the ACJS Executive Board!  (2011)

Congratulations to Brandon Applegate, Ph.D. (1997), who was appointed as the Chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina on July 1, 2011!

Congratulations to Kelly Brown, Ph.D. (1999), who will be Chair of the new Dept. of Criminal Justice at Homeland Security at Indiana University-Kokomo.

Congratulations to Leah E. Daigle, Ph.D. (2005), Assistant Professor, Georgia State University, who won the Junior Faculty Scholarship Award for the College of Health and Human Sciences for outstanding research of untenured faculty!

Congratulations to Tamara Madensen, Ph.D. (2007), who won:
1.  The Alex G. and Faye Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award that is awarded annually to one faculty member who has a long-standing record of excellence in teaching! The Spanos Award is the highest teaching honor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Only previous recipients of college-level teaching awards are eligible for consideration. And,
2. The  University of Nevada, Las Vegas CSUN Faculty Excellence Award, which is awarded to faculty who have been selected as an outstanding professor by members of student government!
